About 7-Zip testing

7-Zip's built-in benchmark measures compression and decompression performance in MIPS. Because it is light on memory, it runs on virtually every board we test, from 256MB classics through to flagship boards with 32GB of RAM. That reach makes it our broadest and most comparable CPU ranking, and it is the default sorting metric across the site. Compression stresses memory latency and integer performance; decompression is almost pure CPU, so the combined figures give a well-rounded picture.
